All Our Bags Are Packed...

Welcome to our blog! Before I get started, I would like to give thanks to Rylee for coming up with our awesome name, "How The Crows Fly"! (thank you) I hope to keep this blog updated regularly to help everyone track us and see what we are up to. I will do my best!
So, it is true that all our bags are packed, but it is not without difficulty! Packing for 2 years in Alaska was very hard especially since we honestly don't know what to expect. Should we buy warm clothes, boots, and hats? Well, we decided not to. We are going to wait until we get there and see what the locals wear. Anyway, back to the packing... we packed a total of 3 times. We utilized about 6 large spacebags and 9 pieces of luggage total. The spacebags were helpful and I would definitely recommend them to everyone with one exception: they decrease space, but increase weight. Each bag was only allowed to have 50 lbs. in it, and with each spacebag weighing about 20 lbs., it was hard to fit them all in. Nonetheless, we did it!

For those of you who don't know, we are going to Nome, Alaska. This is a "fly-in, fly-out" community with no Wal-Mart, McDonalds, or any of our around-the-corner conveniences! Wesley and I went to Sams and stocked up on shampoo, lotion, medicine, and things like this. Yes, Nome does sell these things, just a little pricey so we thought we would get a leg up! It is also settled right off the Bering Sea, so picture your favorite beach town and drop it about 80 degrees! It is running in the 60s there right now, so while yall are sweating away, Wesley and I will be feeling nice and cool! Now, talk to me again around September, and I'm sure I will have a much different outlook!
We both accepted jobs at Norton Sound Hospital as RNs. This will be my very first nursing job, so needless to say...I'm TERRIFIED! Since Nome is 100 miles south of the Artic Circle, hypothermia is one of the most prevalent disease processes they treat there, so Wesley and I are studying up!
We leave out of the Birmingham Airport at 1:15pm tomorrow (6/18), so prayers are welcome. This will be Wesley's very first flight ever, and I am usually the person that has to be comforted on the flights, so we will see how this goes! (I'm going to try to be strong!) We have a few connections between Birmingham and Anchorage. We arrive in Anchorage around 1:00am, which is around 4:00am our time, then we go to a hotel for the rest of the night, and fly out at 11:00am and arrive in Nome around 12:30pm! We are so excited, and maybe even more nervous!
Tonight, mom made her WORLD famous lasagna! Trust me, I've been to Italy and tasted the lasagna...Mom's is better! We also had hot fudge cake! I'm pretty sure all our bellies are hurting from eating so much!
We have a crew coming with us in the morning to see us off: Mom, Zac, Ethan, Jennifer, Wes, Mike, Rachel, and Katie!!! I hope all our weighing and rearranging pays off and we don't have to pay any overage charges!
Well, this about wraps up my very first blog! Please spread it around to all your friends and people that might not have gotten the address!
Till next time,
The Crows
